AZTLAN DEL NORTE

"We, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlán from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny."  ~ Alurista, poet

LA REINA DEL NORTE
Installation | National Museum of Mexican Art 2003

La Reina del Norte was an installation created for the Day of Dead exhibition at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago in 2003. The poem on the wall behind the figure of La Muerte tells the story of the dangerous journey to the North attempted by so many desperate people, who in seeking a better life, frequently encounter more tragedy and loss."
